This historic palace near Sabaneyev Bridge once belonged to the noble Tolstoy family. Today, it houses the Odesa House of Scientists. What makes this building truly special is that it’s the only aristocratic mansion in the city where most of the original interior decor has been preserved.
The architectural complex consists of two structures: the main residence of Count Mykhailo Tolstoy — a two-story mansion with 12 rooms — and a separate art gallery designed by the same architects who built Odesa’s current Opera House.
The mansion, featuring elements of Russian classicism, was constructed in the 1830s by Italian architect Franz Boffo for court chamberlain Mykola Khorvat. In the 1860s, the estate became the property of the Greek General Consul, Tsitsinia.
